Sticks and Stones will break your Bones

Roberto has recently broken two bones in his left hand skimboarding at Spanish Banks. He Launched off a wave to get in a grab, slipped out of the landing tried putting his left hand out to break his fall. One week after he went in for surgery to have wires put in, the doctors said, “Sorry pal no skimboarding, soccer, or anything where you have risks of falling”…

So now Roberto’s put himself in a filmers position. On July 6th the crew was out full force at Spanish seshin Yur Dawgs killer up-down-up r

ail. Roberto came out to cheer on the lads but couldn’t stay off his board. With a quick toss and tie of a plastic bag over his cast, Roberto was shredding like his arm didn’t faze him. He mastered the one handed throws and kept it clean with two falls, each time raising the broken hand

to prevent any further injuries of course.

“Sorry pal, no skimboarding..”

“Sorry doc, I just can’t stop!”

Minns and Dino go to Sacramento SkimFest’07

Dino Mantovani And Ryan Newby Double Pen The G Spot

Looking to put an end to the competitive season on a high note, Minns and Dino boarded a plane to Sacramento to attend SkimFest. Having been to the event the two years prior, Minns was looking to add to his 1st and 2nd place finishes as well as put Dino in on one of the flatland industries biggest scenes. With Minns and Dino, as well as Launie, Brian Kniveton, Matt Matteucci, Tim Pepper and Ryan Newby repping the Kayotics team jerseys, the presence was felt in NorCal. Minns picked up a 3rd place finish and Dino made the finals. As usual the boys were getting crushed at a Karaoke bar for the Skimfest Eve activities. Some serious partying and some pretty legit skimming made for a killer weekend. The dudes in Sac definitely have skimboards and lifestyles.

August Assault Tour 2007

With no concrete plans until the day before the set departure date, no new rails to bring along, and a depleted marketing budget, the Kayotics team boarded the Queen of Nanaimo in search of sun and skim. After stocking up on camping supplies at Wal-Mart, the boys headed to Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville to shred the beach we hadn’t filmed at since the first Kayotics Tour in 2004. After Parksville, it was on to Hornby Island for two days and two nights of business and pleasure (in that order). That order changed quickly. Upon arrival at Hornby, only the drivers of the three vehicles were sober. The first of many things that didn’t go our way was the denial of a campsite by the surly moustache-having bitch working behind the counter of the Tribune Bay Campsite (if you’re there, throw a flaming bag of poo at their doorstep) Needing to be set up near the skim spot, we were forced to camp illegally on the sprawling hills overlooking the bay. The night was filled with rookie initiation, firewood gathering, macking, liquor consumption and Yuri and Duff’s now infamous line, “Are we crushin? or Are we crushin?” The morning after was rough. Not only was everyone nursing a hangover, but the weather was cold and wet. After Jan’s Cafe breathed some life into the boys, we hit the beach. The much hyped “LA Blunt” rail was re-configured to an up flat. Video and Photos were shot for 2 hours until the rain and tide trumped the session. While everyone drowned in their sorrows at Jan’s and the co-op liquor store, Gary the angry park ranger was discovering our tent city in the hills. Upon our return, Gary the angry park ranger was one angry park ranger. He issued us a 72 hour ban from the park which included the beach. With the last ferry having already left the island, we were forced to pull a tent-less Macguyver sleep on the very beach from which we were banned. At sunrise the team bolted for the first ferry. The 2007 August Assault Tour was Kayotics’ third and final appearance at Hornby Island. They clearly can’t handle how hard we crush. We would like to make clear that our lack of enthusiasm towards Hornby does not extend to Jan’s Cafe. Jan, you’re great! Despite the crap weather and lack of preparation, the tour was a blast and further solidified the bond of the gnarliest flatland skim team in the world. Next year’s tour will include a visit to a new destination on the sunshine coast. Stay tuned to www.kayotics.com for pics of the tour…

JamFest6- F*ck the parks board

After 5 years of Kayotics’ annual skimboarding event in Boundary Bay, the parks board decided we would no longer qualify for a permit unless the company paid an ungodly amount of money. Instead of going along with their communist ways, Kayotics has planned a permit-less JamFest6. The date cannot be released in case those marks from the parks department read this blog and thwart our plans. And if we don’t update for a while, its because we’re in jail. Stay tuned for a summary…

Billabong sponsorship

Kayotics and Billabong have joined forces in a cross-promotion to further the development of flatland skimboarding. The deal sees Kayotics’ riders, John Minns, Yuri Choufour and Dino Mantovani leave Hurley to ride for Billabong.  Along with the individual sponsorship of the 3 riders, Billabong will be a large contributor to sponsorship of Kayotics events everywhere.
